The fabled god of legend that remains a mystery to this day, he was created as one of the foundational gods overseeing Heaven and Earth directly beneath Izanami & Izanagi. A misstep led to his execution by his sister Amaterasu, and a further mistake found him in the hands of Father, a human who refused to die. Using the tool he got from Izanami, he ensured the foundling god was renamed Yaboku and declared him a god of Calamity for his purposes.

In an extraordinary display of hubris, Father remolded him into a god that would bring nothing but carnage, but a god can never truly change its nature. He was always destined to rebel, and for the past thousand years has been in a cycle of rebelling against Father's authority while remaining an outcast from Heaven for his little rebellious stunt.

During his present conflict, trying to bring Father to heel and taking him down, feeling responsible for not dealing with it sooner, Amaterasu blessed him with the knowledge he was sorely lacking - his identity. Things are both clearer and not, and Yato has a lot to think about.

shinki pactYato can, with a willing spirit, create a shinki that is essentially a divine servant who will turn into a weapon or tool of some kind based on what the god needs. For Yato, this will always include a blade as a component due to his abilities, unless he already has that covered and doesn't need it.

exorcism Yato can exorcise malevolent spirits with a shinki in hand.

threads of fate Yato can follow characters' threads of fate to locate them, provided he can pick it up. He can sever bonds and mess with people's fates with a shinki in hand. He can also divine points along the threads of fate as they are - but be warned, fate is ever changing and not set in stone.

minor shapeshifting While still appearing as himself, he can alter his looks to change things like his hair length, age and sex. He cannot change his eyes.

water manipualation/location Yato can perform minor water manipulation with a shinki. He can however locate and find his way to water on his own.

superhuman He is not a human, and so he is much sturdier, stronger, faster and nearly immortal. Humans cannot kill him at all, it requires a demonic/celestial/undead touch.
